Mo Gutiérrez Serna received her doctoral degree in fine arts (painting) from the Complutense University of Madrid. She worked as a visual artist until the year 2000, at which point she threw herself into creating and illustrating books. She has illustrated some 60 books, several of which she also authored, for the most renowned publishing houses in Spain, Asia, and Latin America.

She has wide-ranging experience teaching classes and workshops, and her works have been exhibited in numerous settings and have received prestigious national and international awards, including the BRAW Amazing Bookshelf Prize at the Bologna Ragazzi Awards (2025), the Spanish Ministry of Culture’s National Award for Best Book Design (2014 and 2024), the International Junceda Illustration Award in Barcelona (2016), and South Korea’s fourth CJ Picture Book Award (2011), among others.
